FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Good Morning Lyric,

Heathers advice is right on, it is terrible that we are force to comply with so many stupid rules on our own land. I suggest you make friends with someone in your permitting department or a county commissioner they may be able to show you how to bend the rules and get what you want. The local ones here helped me when I had problems with builder not quite following the rules when constructing house next door. They stopped him 3 times and he had to have my signature in order to get a CO. He was flooding my yard with excess fill.

Best of luck in obtaining your dream. DH and I had the same dream, bought our land in Miss only code is no mobile homes. However local housing market crash made our house worth less that purchased for 20 years ago and we have to sell in order to build. Now DH has bladder cancer and at our ages (retired) we have had to place land on market for sale.

Ooooh Carol, if I am reading you correctly you had your dream and the economy took it away

. At the very least I hope you are able to sell the land (it reads as you are going through this NOW). One of the reasons we want out on our land is to simplify and hopefully be less affected by what this economy (and Washington) does or does not do. And that's over and above being treated unjustly here.

I am going to share what you and Ms. Heather told me with DH. Thanks for chiming up with some 4-1-1. Every lil bit helps.

Oh hey Heather, WHEN we move onto our land we want two doggies. One needs to be a Havi [I keep looking at your drooling

]. DH I think is into aussies, but Cyndi, suggested the English Shepherd may be better.

I'm talking our farming life into existence; speaking of it as though it is a reality.

lyric Unfortunately that is what happens when you buy land without the necessities. When we bought our land we had to hire someone to put in the septic system and well We put in our own power pole and thankfully my brother in law is an electrician so he helped with the electric. On hind site that is why the property was less expensive. Depending on where you are or the size of the town the people working in the permit office should know of someone local to handle all your needs Good Luck

Aw, thanks for the compliment on our dog, Lyric. We love him so much! He's great w/ my son. If I got a second dog & got to pick the breed... I'd either get another one of these, or maybe an old english sheepdog b/c they look like a big version of ours.

We adopted our dog & plan on only ever adopting dogs if/when the need arises. Right now, though, I'm collecting chickens & maybe eventually another human baby.

*but runs to look at fl sheepdog rescue site just in case.....*

LOL @ their naked necks! Honestly never seen that before. What an interesting breed. Are there any benefits or do you just like their unique trait?

Florida friends,

Is anyone doing a fall garden?

I'll tell you what I have going... if my brain can still work after all the yardwork I accomplished this weekend...

Waiting on these to sprout: beans, strawberries, sweet peppers, more dill, more sunflowers (do the chickens eat those seeds?!), sweet potato (though it rooted), & I'm rooting, from cuttings, some wild coffee, gardenias, & beauty berry plants all from existing plants in my yard.

Sprouted: Bell peppers, sunflowers, broccoli, lettuce mix, marigolds, tomato volunteers from previous owner of the home's compost, & maybe some wild cotton or something coming up around the previous compost site.

Need to plant: zucchini & holding off on spinach & arugula seeds for it to get cooler.

Thriving: Corn has tassels, honeydew has flowers... but is currently being attacked by ants, so we'll see how that goes

....(Getting that diatomaceous earth stuff tomorrow.)

We've got some citrus trees, too. One is a mystery, & one is Ruby Red Grapefruit that are supposed to be really good... I hate grapefruit, so if anyone wants some, c'mon by!

I would love to hear... what are you growing this fall?

Heather,

We have limes, grapefruit, and oranges for citrus trees all overloaded with fruit. Will be putting in 2 apple trees, a lemon and a honey bell.

Currently have a ton of tomatoes thanks to Carol on here, and many herbs I had to sort and move around. Melons in the pasture as well as pumpkin.

Planting sun flowers around the flight pens this week along with marigolds just because.

Fall raised garden plans are for salad crops, zuchs, carrots (for the bunnies), and anything else that temps me after setting up the raised beds.

Spent yesterday helping hubby mow the property, today setting posts and starting a flight pen for his quail. Hubby had to cut down one of my oak trees, the trunk had started rot, so it had to come down before it did damage. It will make good firewood this winter though.
