FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

New babies due the end of the month. I did see a few lion heads on CL recently.

Carol, I bet the hens will miss the girls as much as you do.
From when you were here we took the center down that lead to the human door on the coop. Built the 12x12 flight pen on the right as you face the coop. Added a 12x4 off of it (right side as you face it) for the quail. We will add one more (same size) for the bob whites. The peafowl are getting a pen on the other side of the yard near the silver barn, it will be an octagon shape with a 3 sided shelter against the barn wall for them to get out of storms. We also took down most of the chicken run, it will all come down soon and be replaced with the same stained post flight pen design. It will be much smaller though as we don't lock them up except for large deliveries. Wouldn't build another, but want to be able to keep young birds/chicks in it until they free range too.

We have about 8 pens left to build. 1 for our meat chickens, 2 peafowl, 1 to replace what the hens have now, 1 for the other quail, 2 more call duck breeding pens and a rabbit pen raised off the ground and divided. Oh and a pasture shelter for the goats too. Lots of fall and winter projects.

Update your loving rooster loves the land he can roam free on. He has 5 girlfriends that he took from big red. When you left he went roaming all over but I had to get the kids to go get him from outback cause he wanted to explore the whole 10 acres.I went out to check on him and he is sleeping with 5 of the girls.Thank You!!! The chickens love when when I mow my yard

HAHA.. I'm glad he was able to steal a few girlies of his own. I can't wait to see how he continues to grow and develop. I'll definitely come visit when he grows out

LOL, love the Rooster Saga! Such a soap opera. Stealing FIVE LADIES! My word!

I definitely think that heat & adding new girls to a flock, etc... can delay or put a hold up on laying. Or maybe they are laying in the yard somewhere? Time to send the little girls on an egg hunt! I went outside & caught one of mine singing the egg song in our white brick & mortar planter outside our front door. It's elevated & under the shaded carport, so it certainly would make a nice nest box... I looked at her and said, "seriously?" & rolled my eyes, went back in the house & she relocated herself to the coop. I locked her in until she was done with her business.

I love the names your girls come up w/, Carol.

& Shellie, a doe? a deer? a female deer?! I definitely want to visit your farm one day...I love deer! The ones at the zoo are our favorites. It's so sweet how they lick your hands. Such a shame they're so dear & so delicious. Edited to say, I had no idea that a doe was also a rabbit. Bunnies are cool, too.... but really, been there, done that & done w/ buns.

LoL yeah a rabbit doe, not a deer doe. We have the lops as pets for the baby. We are adding meat rabbits as well this fall, so we wanted to show him that some animals can and do have multiple purpose, and that it is OK.

Hubby sends me a text saying that when he retires he wants to build coops and aviaries for others.

guess he is enjoying all of these building projects more than I knew.

DANG!! Why can't I get texts like that?? I am on the hunt for a small tractor and something for the ducklings.. I need to figure out what I'm going to do with them when they outgrow the small hutch they are in.

Let me know if any of you close by have anything or pictures of your set up for something small. We are only keeping two ducks long term for eggs. The other three will be guests for Christmas

Rouens are HUGE (did you see our Pekin male?) they need a pool for bathing and a bucket of clean water for drinking. Drinking water needs to be deep enough they can get their entire head in It to clear the nares out. They are grazing/pooping machines and need lots of space since they need to graze on grass to be healthy and happy. All of our ducks get 2 small meals a day, once in the morning and right before they get put up for the night (older birds). The ducklings have food and water available 24/7.

They will quickly out grow a small tractor style house. Our Buff and Silver Appleyard ducklings are quickly outgrowing their grow out pen. Will be free ranging the, very soon. (once the storm passes).
