Welcome!
I am in SW FL right now (looking to move soon, though). Where abouts you moving to? IMHO, you MUST have a secure, enclosed coop for night roosting (think plywood). I did not think we had an issue here until something came a few nights ago and ate half of my ground quail who were in a chickenwired run. Good luck!

We are moving to Sanibel Island, and gators could be an issue. Also, It's also not 'legal' to have them, so I have to be really discreet about it. (I figure this is a safe enough forum to announce my intent to move to Fla. with 'contraband birds'.) My sweet husband knows how much i love my girls, so the back yard and 'privacy' is factoring heavily into decision making when looking at property. (Unfortunately there are no acreages on the island (imagine that, on an island!) and there is a very limited supply of homes in our $ range.)
Who has knowledge of gators? I am thinking that sight/movement would be way more important to a gator than smell? Thinking that a strategically placed tarp could protect the girls from an alligator spotting them. just wondering how important smell is to the gator. I like the idea of chicken wire over chainlink (though aesthetically I would prefer not) because monitor lizards are also a potential issue.
Feel free to post pics of your Florida chicken fortresses- I need ideas for trying to find a balance between secure AND pretty!
DANG- how do yall even keep chickens alive there?! lol, i feel like I might be moving my sweet girls into too dangerous an area!
I say stucco chicken coop. make it match your home, no one would ever know.
we build one, little one but can be bigger.
