Grif's in Davie gets chicks every Saturday, although they told me they won't be getting anymore in until mid-November (White Rocks). Right now they have Ameracauna, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rock, and Silkie chicks. They're $4.95. Red Barn in Loxahatchee had quite a few different varieties when we were there a couple weeks ago, too.

Yeah, the feed store is a dangerous place, and my kids are a bad influence. It's hard for me to say no when the girls are holding a chick up saying "Look at this one's puffy face, mom...it's soooo cute!" I do say no sometimes, but yesterday I was weak - I'll blame it on this beautiful weather.

A freind told me about this lady who had a litter of peekapoo/shihTzu puppies and coudnt afford to look after them all and couldnt sell/keep them..so I have a boy and a girl from that litter. Then last week a guy that delivered a chain link dog run to my house was telling me he had border collie pups for sale .... Always wanted a border collie! so now I have one

She is great with the little pups and they all wear each other out racing around the house .
Pity about the chain link dog run.....seems I have to have a permit for that too

so...its still stacked up beside the garage!

Yesterday we had a close call with our favorite Turken hen: she was sunbathing a short distance from my daughter and I, when a Black Vulture swooped down and tried to nab her. I heard a terrible commotion, and turned in time to see our hen run for her life, and the vulture fly up back up to our roof and glare. Vultures have been circling the area this past few day, riding the air currents and looking for carrion, but I had no idea they'd be a threat to living creatures. After doing an information search, I found out that although it's rare, they will indeed attack small, live creatures - they're opportunists. So, heads up everybody. It seems everything wants to eat our feathered friends!

Have a great day everybody. Time to plant some tomatoes.

Wow! I always hated vultures..now there is another reason. Yicky things! My next coop is going to be fort knox.

Aww, I love border collies too! Congrats on our furry family growth! (Email some pics, I'd love to see your new pups! I got a few new ones of the silks to send ya'll too when I can get my camera from my mom this week.) & I agree w/ Lisa, having to have a permit for a dog run is rediculous! Does Leighigh not have anything better to do w/ their time than "enforce" stupid permit rules?!

Lisa, I wish our feed stores would carry chicks year round! lol... But I think my hubby may leave me if I bring anymore home before re-homing our 5 inherited chickens.

(Especially since I brought home another Japanese bantam cross & a blue silkie roo Friday. hehe...) Chicken math has REALLY gotten to me!

If they are dumb enough to fly down while I'm out there then I guess there gonna die in mid-flight.To bad they can't fly below my radar.My radar is right on the ground where it belongs.The radar I'm talking about is me holding a BB-GUN pump action and I have it pumped up to 50 times just to see if I can hit my target But if I hit something it will go right through it with that much power behind it.Tonite I'll sit up in tree waiting on my Bobcat.Since he runs then turns to dare me to chase him.Well the chasing is over.All he hasto do is stop and turn to look at me and WAM BAM GAME OVER!

Oh, I'll get him sooner or later but I'll bet he don't get anymore free chickens from this ole man.Just like this one guy said sounds as if your just feeding the Bobcats.
