FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

I don't blame you but some people just don't care for their chickens like they would their kids. But I raise my chickens as if they were my kids.Even though I do have my 3 grandsons over here every weekend and this weekend I BBQ'ed a pig I caught last week and they are loving every bit of it.NPIP is very strict and want everyone to have a clean flock. If I was to get a chicken from someone else that used to be NPIP certified I cage that bird or birds by their selfs untill I feel that there is no harm to add to my flock.Take care and glad I could help & take care of your birds as you would take care of your your own family....The ole' man, Lost but not forgotten!

I'll try that Flachicken, thanks. How long did it take for a reply? I'm almost ready to give it up!.....stan
It really dosen't matter to me how tall they are, I just want my flock tested.

Man is it cold TODAY ! Sorry I aint been on this thread in awhile. For NPIP certification Just call them (850-251-1226) and leave your name and number. They got back to me quick. They tell you when they are going to come so if you want to clean up or do some water changes you have time. The tester for our area called ME this year and came the very next day to test my birds just last week. My guy is great ,easy and gave me his card to call him on any questions. The NPIP test is for pullorum-typhoid.THAT is All they REQUIRE(pinprick blood test on. 20% of your flock.) However they will also check for avian influenza and exotic newcastle disease.if you LET them.(10% of your flock by swabbing a throat culture.) All this is 100% free. My testers told me they have NEVER had PT turn up btw.But if they did yes the birds would be put down and all the remaining ones would be checked of course. I hope this helps everyone and clears up anyones questions about the NPIP program. In my opinion I dont see why we arnt all tested as Its totally free and why wouldnt you want to know everyone has healthy birds? Hope this helps yall Shawn

For how long have they been getting negative results for PT. Since the government is doing this. YES YOU ARE PAYING FOR IT. Your taxes are. So my question Is if they have never had a positive result. Why are they still doing it ????? And why are we, as taxpayers, still paying for it.

They had a few people last year in 2 other counties to test positive and they took their birds and put them down. When they was here I asked all kinds of questions and got answers. But they only test your flock once a year but they do notify you when they come out.But the guy that tested stuck around for about an hour talking to me informing of all the laws then he went around the county testing horses and cattle to see if they have their papers. If you rent your stables you have to have papers for all horses or cattle showing they have been tested.

Oh I see. I thought they just tested chickens. I know about the horse testing.. It's called a Coggins test. It tests for various strains of encephalitis, but they don't come out and do it for free. Your equine vet has to do it and it cost 36.00 if you take the horse to them. Add a 90.00 trip charge and they come to you. They ( the gov.) just monitor the paperwork. LOL

Thanks for replying on this Floridachicken. I said "My" testers never had a case". I cant speak of course about the rest of Fl. But maybe I could have been alot more concise on the" MY." I see though now it DOES occur. Hence, yall take the test! NPIP stands for" national poultry inspection program". All they do is poultry. Im sure horses, cattle, etc. fall under another section of " dept of the agriculture and consumer services ". I live in the city so no livestock for me, including chickens unfortunately. Because chickens are considered livestock in our city. Yep ibeier2000 you are correct. Yes I guess you pay for everything with that train of thought. I dont really
care about the taxes on programs such as disease prevention sorry.

Also because I feel the government is pretty much gonna do what they want to anyway.(Ill be there for when the next revolution occurs though

) But keep fighting the good fight.Thats why I try to stay out of politics and religion , because Ive found you cant change peoples minds much on either of those subjects. LOL! All I was just trying to share was what's all involved with getting your flock tested.

NPIP people really does a good job on keeping up with their job and if you ask they will explain everything to you and even break it down for you atleast the guy did that checked my chickens.Really nice people though. The 2 that checked my chickens was a female and a man but in seperate vehicles. The lady that drove the van done the swab in the mouth of each chicken. But the guy stuck around and talked to me about how their system worked.

Hi all,
Went to the state fair today. And I for one will NOT be showing at that show ever. Lots of chickens with comments on them about need to remove and treat for lice. Seen that on multiple birds, and the comment about dirty birds. Birds need bath and prep for show. I did not think the fair would let these birds check in and be placed in coops next to other healthy birds.

I went to Lake City and it was great. So this was a real eye opener for me. As I have been checking into getting some show stock. I will be going to the Tampa show in March. Just hope they treat the building before the show.

BTW, they had a real nice Paso Fino show. Caught up will some of my Paso friends. Got to love the coffee and food from the horse people.
