FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

There's a big oak tree in the front and another on the side of the house. The barn has a 12 x 48 foot isle down the middle. There's a shady grove where we filled in a pond and a huge pie shaped area that is dry wet lands with lots of shade. I'm out in the boon docks. You can get a satellite image off google. I'll PM you my address.

Hi everyone! I am new to this site and live in Central Florida. I just placed an order to have a coop built and hopefully it will be done in 4-6 weeks. I want to order an assortment of breeds from a hatchery but only want to keep 8 chicks. Is there any way around that? Are there any hatcheries in Florida that carry a large variety of breeds?

Now that we have all these members, do you guys think is time to do a Florida Swap?

with over 500 members I think we can do it, I'm just not that good at organizing events!!
what do you all think?

That is an awesome idea but PLEASE do it on a Sunday, i have to work on Saturday and can never go to them

Hi there I am new here too.
You will find that it is better to find local breeders to buy from rather than a hatchery. There are many in the area and plenty of swaps to attend if you are lucky enough to have Saturdays off work. I am still looking for a few more chicks myself and I am hoping to find a swap somewhere on a Sunday . You can also post what you are looking for here and look on craigs list.

First of all WELCOME!! There are a lot of breeders in central Fla who have much nicer birds than you will get from a hatchery. The first thing you will want to do is to go to the breeds selection tool on this site and decide what breeds fit with your needs/wants. Then post on this thread looking for them from a local breeder. Another option if you are not in a real hurry is to go to swaps in your area and see what is available. There is a listing on a thread under 'social, chicken shows and trades', something like that. Look for CMOM. She keeps an updated list of swaps and shows. Maybe you can come to the swap Nava and Fuzzybutt are trying to plan. ..........stan

I love the idea of the swap, but do we want to do it this time of the year? With people driving from all over the state, it would be hard to get an early start, and in another month we are going to have rain almost every afternoon. Can we get this together in less than a month?

If you and Nava help Fuzzybutt, I'm sure you can get er done!

Good point and people may have already made their plans and be unable to attend. There's a swap about every week in my area. Maybe we could shoot for fall?

I work most weekends but will try to help however I can and perhaps I'll be able to take off. Just depends on what shift I'm on.

It's 2 1/2 Hrs for me, I can travel.

if we do it we will need help and lots of Ideas,

maybe have a cook out?

and the date I'm open so who wants to attend and what dates are good with you.

well, if i get a new pickup by fall than i would agree to come help organize with you fuzzybutt. from what you are saying the drive should be around an hour and a half for me. im located right off 95 along the river. very close to playalinda beach. right now i have a beat up old ford bronco that has survived one too many winters in new england lol shes about to fall apart and retire soon. one of those cars where you carry lots of jugs of water in the back just incase lol
but i would totally be willing to help in anyway that i can. even if i dont get my new truck by fall i will still do what i can from my end. besides being a pet lover i am actually quite skilled in many areas :D
i can build sites, advertise, graphics, animation... anything computer related since that is what my piece of toilet paper says. ooops did i say toilet paper? i meant to say degree lol
i would really love to meet all the great people here at BYC florida and have a swap. i have never been to one before and im DYING to go! lol i know they have animal swaps and stuff all the time near me but one that is mostly chicken related would be excellent. i hear about swaps going on in christmas all the time and that is near me but its multi-animal.
ok i'll stop rambling for now, but this is exciting and i really hope it is something that can be achieved!
