FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

So when you I stop feeding chick food and go to feeding adult/layer food? The chicks look so funny now. Mostly feathered except for heads of down still. Still peeping quietly. No adult voices yet.

Stay with the chick start grow formula untill they are starting to lay, or untill you are sure they will be laying soon. If you start the layer feed too soon, you will have problems due to the extra calcium in it. ......stan

Hi fellow Floridian!

I am in Davie which is South Florida, right above Miami. Add me to your list please. I am new to BYC, and sooo new to chickens that I don't even have one yet, but we are in the serious learning/planning stages. Where else can I go to meet other South Floridians?

Thank you!

Annmarie Fino

Welcome to BYC Annmarie! (hey, that rhymes..) I grew up in S Florida, and lived in Davie for 11 years. :)

Hi Stephanie,
You need to start a new thread so all can see it, call it....
HELP!!!! I NEED A NEW WHITE SILKIE ASAP near LAKELAND, FLORIDA.....
Then tell your story and someone should know where to get one.
Also lookup the Silkie thread on here, and ask for help. That is what I would do.
Hope this helps.

I stress my chickens out when I clean the coop/tractor. I'd really like some ideas on how to make it a little less stressful. Once a week I move the coop, wash it out and change the bedding in the nesting boxes. We have some portable fence sections that I move around to make a run for the chickens that attaches to the coop. When I clean the coop I close up the run with the chickens inside. I move the coop and wash it, allow it to dry somewhat, and then systematically move pieces of the run to the new area. As I move the panels the run gets smaller and smaller until all 4 chickens are in a tiny area surrounded by just 3 4-foot long panels (and the water and food are in there, as well). The chickens are fine until right at the end, when they are crowded. One in particular doesn't like the crowding and tries to get out, creating a chicken panic. I don't know how to keep the panic from occurring unless I move the chickens back into the coop immediately after its cleaned and lock them up until the run is rebuilt. Any ideas? Here is a good picture of the set up. You will also see Elvis, the Feral Cat who absolutely loves the chickens and who also gets upset when I mess with his birds:
