You got some good Aussie girls there Cindy, good top lines on the 2 in front, and nice open tails too. It gives you a jump when you can pick them from almost grown pullets. The Del looks to have a little pinch in the tail?? Did any of those turn out to be good? I have a couple that I am liking from that breeding. .......stan

The Aussies are amazing, Stan. I definitely need to get a good cock from you after you pick out your favorites. They are going to be good breeders.
Of the Del pullets, only 1 looks like she is going to have a good tail. The cockerels both look better, good tails and very yellow legs. I am hoping things will improve as they get older, but if I breed them, at least I will have the cockerels' influence. The Dels have great size, and large chests. I am always impressed with the meat on those little guys.

Yes this was one of Stan's chicks (not a chick anymore lol) but I'm not sure which one laid the egg. Had to hurry and put nest boxes in their stall. I figured the Leghorns would be the first to lay but I was wrong. LOL

I was asking because this line is wonderful, and if Stan moves away, I want to keep in touch with others that have these Aussies. A few years down the road, when we need new roosters to keep things going, I want to stay in the line, but have a little different blood. Want to trade roosters in 5 years or so?

I have 2 extra roo's from Stans chicks if your interested. They were 20 wks old on Sunday. I'm just down the road from you. One of the hen's laid her first egg on Tuesday and laid another today. I'll try to get new pics up but if you go back through the posts I have posted quite a few pics of them growing up. I would really like them to go to someone who will appreciate them.

Thanks, Ingrid. The plan was to get one of Stan's after he picked out his favorites. It sounded like he wanted to look at yours, so he should get first pick. If it wasn't for Stan, we wouldn't have these great birds. I've never had birds that were so good that I had to breed them to keep the line going, but these girls definitely deserve something better than my hatchery Australorp rooster. He will be happy with the laying hens and will stay. I just hope he doesn't need therapy when he sees the new cockerel.

Cindy, I'm O.K. with the 2 guys I have kept. I'm just waiting to see who gets the curviest tail, then I'll decide. If Ingrid has a couple of nice ones, you would be better to get one of hers and go ahead and put him in with your pullets so they can get aquainted. Your pullets are only a week or 2 younger than Ingrid's cockerels, and should start to lay in the next couple of weeks. ...stan

Okay Debby is gone and we are just about dried up enough to start cleaning up. Our chicken runs were under at least a foot of water along with a good part of our 5 acres. The food and water containers were in the water so I now need to clean and sanitize them. What would be safest and the best way? Do you think just soap and hot water will do it? Don't think I want to use bleach. Thanks for any thoughts!

With Stan's blessing, I will take you up on your offer Ingrid. It will be next week before I can get over there. I'll PM you to set up a time. They are the softest birds in my flock, but unfortunately they don't like cuddling. That is the one disavantage of getting older birds, it takes a while to build a relationship with them.

Thanks for the reminder Stan. I need to get a nest box in their pen so they can start checking it out. I am really looking forward to the eggs. I've had a real shortage since selling most of my birds last spring.
