As soon as they are of average size for that breed, not too small and not too large. I don't recommend hatching those or any abnormally shaped eggs. I'm getting my incubator all tuned up. LOL

I'm in Brandon Florida! Looking for 3 assorted hens & 1 Rooster that were raised as pets or willing to get chicks & raise myself. Had a fox mishap...ny pen & the floor have All Been rewired weather it needed it or not & everything seems to be fine, The 3 hens that are left are not a year yet Any suggestions as which way to go. I wasn't sure if I would be better with a small group that were raised as pets together or start with chicks. Of course they would be supervised when they got old enough to meet... for days if not weeks. Intro's will be short at 1st & longer as time goes on or perhaps a few teenage hens raised together maybe a better idea while my hens are still young???
Either way I'll need some chicks or young hens...3 hens & 1 rooster would be prefered assorted..lost a White Americana & a Rhode Island Red Rooster...have an Austrlope, a New Hampshire Red & a Buff Orpington raised as pets & together.
Looking for there replacements & to add a couple of more different hens...know any where I can get what I'm looking for close to Brandon Florida?! My last ones I got from Hillsborough County Fair!

I would appreciate any information or lead you could give me.

I'm in Lakeland and have 3 Langshan and a light sussex chicks up on craigslist if you're interested. They were born May 31st. They're straight run. I've never had these breeds and they change everyday so I'm not sure what I've got sex wise but I'm all but positive the sussex is female.

We have an EE roo who is huge, sweet, and good with hens and chicks (just not a coloring we want to use for breeding. He is just over 1. We have a Marans roo (black copper) 8 months old who doesn't meet the standard (clean legs among other faults) who is also sweet and easy going. Roos are $5 each as pets Then we have EE chicks, OE chicks, & some Marans. A few older chicks/pullets too.

I know we are across the state, but have had others drive 3 hours one way to pick up birds here in the past.

Hi GAP, I am just down the road in Plant City. I don't think it matters if you get hens or chicks. I have never had a problem introducing new chickens to my flock. I just put the new ones in the coop after dark and they wake up together in the morning. There are usually a few squabbles to establish dominance, but never anything bad. I think you will have more problems with short introductions, because they really don't get the time to work things out. If you get chicks, they will be much cheaper, but you probably won't know the sex, and you have a much longer wait to get eggs, but you do have much more control over how they were raised. Most breeders do not handle chicks as pets, and they can be a little more cautious around people if purchased when they are older. Since you have breeds now that are less aggressive, I would recommend that you look for other docile birds. If you get a more aggressive breed, yours will get picked on.

If you are looking for pullets near laying, tigercreek has some Australorps for sale. I have some of his birds and have been very pleased. He is in Palmetto. There is a chicken swap in Plant City next weekend. There is no telling what might be there. There are several chicken groups for our area on facebook, they have lots of listings. I have a friend here in Plant City who has lots of chickens for sale, mostly Dorkings. There are frequently listings on craigslist. There are lots of places to get chickens in our area, you just have to decide what you want.

I live in Hillsborough County and a group of us are trying to get the ordinances changed to make backyard chickens legal. I am asking anyone that lives in Hillsborough County to please sign the petition. We need a couple thousand signatures to be considered as having substantial enough support to pursued the commissioners. Thank you fellow Floridians!
