Do you know what kind of chickens you'll get??

Anyone have tips to keep your chicks from knocking over their feeder? I tried a rock but worried it would fall on one since the love to sit up there! I can fill their feeder then 2 hrs later its everywhere and they won't eat it! It's driving me bonkers! That and the heat is making their pen smell REALLY nice :( I have to clean it out daily. I am starting to create a bigger run since they have grown so fast since bringing them home :)

Hi! I am in the Seffner-Valrico area. I have a gorgeous Splash Blue Wheaten cockerel out of Happy Mountain's line that I would like to see go to show. I hatched him and his siblings back in April. I also have a whole mess of Bantam Ameraucana chicks that hatched last week from Jerry Seigler. Another batch of Black Bantam Ameraucanas just went into lock down today. If you are interested PM me and we will figure out a day and time to get together! Good to know we have friends so close.
Hi Lea, it's Cindy from over on facebook. You are everywhere today.

Hi HippyGardener, welcome to the group. You are a wise woman to check things out before you get chickens. Do you have any breed in mind?

Try:
1) placing it on a piece of wood like a 2x4
2) screwing it to the bottom of the wood if #1 doesn't work.
3) feed them less, twice a day
4) sometimes, if you don't refill it, they're forced to eat the mess they made (not, of course, moldy food!!!! = botulism= death)
5) get used to the fact that chicks love to scratch out feed and some is going to get wasted.

ps, I place waterers on a piece of wood as well, as soon as 4 days old as long as everyone is moving around well and knows what food and water is!
