Hello,
I have been raising hens and ducks for a couple of years. Today a guy offered to give me flour, well to be exact, scone mix and brown bread mix, to feed to my birds. I am stumped, can they eat this?? I feed them layers pellets and oats at the moment. I declined his offer, but it did get me wondering!
Does anyone know about this?
Thanks :D

I don't have a definitive answer to that, but as for me personally? I wouldn't...I can just imagine blobs of "dough" going through their system...eek!

Yes, I did think that too, yuck! There would be no nutritional value either. The guy who offered it can just find somewhere else to get rid of it cos my babies are not eating it!

Has this guy thought of contacting food banks or community kitchens....they'd be GLAD to have the stuff!!

I didn't ask him that, it didn't occur to me because I assumed it was out of date. I will say it to him tomorrow.

Well, I don't know what part of the country you guys are in but out here in the "frontier" state of Oregon? The food banks and community kitchens will take ANYlthing they can get!

I'm actually from, and living in, Ireland. I came across this place last year and have read some great advice time and again.

If it's dough toss it into the oven and make loafs of bread as a treat for the birds...

If it's just the dry mix, finish it up into a dough and toss it into the oven...

I wouldn't use it as a 'feed' but it's a perfectly fine treat...
I thought of that but the bags are 10kg and 12kg.....That's a lot of bread, I'd be 'baking' forever !!! Really though, if he wants to give me the stuff for the fowl, what's wrong with it that he won't use it?? That's what's going through my mind.
It's dry mix BTW.
