I'm looking at purchasing some laying hens. When I inquired today I was told they still had them but his whole flock had the flu and has them on antibiotics for a few days. I told him I would get back with him next week to see how they are doing. My question is, should I avoid these birds all together or after a round of antibiotics they will be fine in a week or so? I'm very very new to chickens, as in I will be getting my first 3 this weekend.

I would be concerned that the 'flu' might be one of the chronic respiratory diseases that can plague a flock forever. If it were me, I would pass on these birds and instead locate a local breeder and start with apparently healthy chickens.
