Good morning,
I noticed last night Roxy wasn’t feeling well. Popped a calcium and gave her raw egg and she perked up a little. Today the entire flock has Nutridrench in the water... figured it would help with the stress of Mama Cashew and chicks. However, this morning Roxy’s crop wasn’t empty. It’s soft, but not huge. When I had a hen with doughy crop, I had great success with Clotrimazole, but don’t have any on hand. CanI use this? They are 100mg tablets.

Poultry Pedia meds list says for candidiasis the dose is 5mg/kg once a day for 7 days.

A 4.5 lb bird is about 2 kg, so dose there would be only 10 mg once a day.
Plumbs shows it as alternate treatment for aspergillosis at a longer period of time.
"!!Birds:
a) As an alternate treatment of aspergillosis: 5 – 10 mg/kg PO
once daily for up to 6 weeks, with or after amphotericin B
(Oglesbee and Bishop 1994)
Monitoring
!!Clinical Efficacy
!!With long-term therapy, occasional liver function tests are recommended"

If it's doughy then I have had luck with the mix below getting it broken up. If it's reproductive issues slowing things up then it may recur.
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ginger powder
1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
squirt of lemon juice
2 TBSP water
mix well, give 1/2 ml at a time orally until all is given, massaging the crop well during the process. Do three times a day.

If the dosage is 10 mg once a day, then I would crush the 100 mg tablet and mix into 10 ml of water if the tablet is water soluble. That would give you 10 mg per ml, but you would need to mix it well. If the crushed tablet does not seem water soluble, then it would be simple to use yogurt or buttermilk.

Well, crap. I didn’t see this, picked up Clotrimazole cream, and already gave her one dose after work. She’s out with the flock free ranging before bed, so I’m glad I caught it before she was feeling super lousy.

I like the ideas of suspending in something other than water!
