I just went outside to put my girls in their coop for the night and I noticed that one of my girls has a large fluid filled pocket on her chest area. She is around 9 weeks old. What is it and what can I do to help her? I am new to the whole chicken world, so I don't know what it could be.
Here is a pic of her chest

That is her crop.....where food is stored while it is beginning the digestion process. This will increase/decrease depending on how much they have eaten so nothing to be concerned about :-)

No its pretty freaky when you first see it. You can google pics too to confirm if it will make you feel better. Its funny some of my hens lately (now that the weather allows for more free ranging) have crops that are almost the size of baseballs...feels like they need a support system to hold it up! lol
