Flushes for aiding in toxin removal

information for treatments read online should always be researched for yourself. It is always best to consult an avian vet when dealing with illness in geese. The information below is how WE dose and use the flushes here on our farm.

Flushes**

Epsom Salt Flush:
3 Tsp. Epsom Salts.
1 ½ Cups water
¼ – ½ gram vitamin and electrolyte powder * Optional
2 – 3 times a day for 3 days or until a full recovery is made.

Molasses Flush:
1 cup Molasses
2 ½ gallons water
5 – 6 grams vitamin and electrolyte powder * Optional
! !Do not exceed 8 hours ! ! After 8 hours replace Molasses flush with vitamin and electrolyte water

Activated Charcoal Slurry
1 tsp. Activated Charcoal Powder
8 oz. – Pure Water
Dose 6 – 8 times daily

**These flushes will cause slight to moderate dehydration as they work to expel toxins and foreign matter from your birds system. After giving a flush, offer a steady supply of vitamin and electrolyte fortified water until a full recovery is made.

we prefer to use steamed oats (quacker like humans eat) and mashed egg when a bird is ill. Isolated into a dog kennel, covered to keep darker and quiet and keeping stress to a minimum.
I realize this is from SEVERAL years ago... But, I have a goose who just today began acting as though she's drunk. Not seeming to balance well, and wobbly. Like most of us, no vet that takes farm animals around so - out of the question unfortunately. No other ideas what it possibly could be, eats well - but just seems off. I'm wondering if she could have eaten something toxic or off (she does free range) and if this is safe to give her possibly?

Do you have activated charcoal? That is a good one to offer if you have it, just make sure whatever of the flushed you offer you follow the directions.

How old is your goose? if a young one maybe it might be nutritional deficiency sometimes they can get a niacin deficiency and that can be helped to get over with liquid B complex {TSC}

I don't but I am sure I could get some. She is roughly 8 months old. She does run with ducks and chickens, so potentially would be eating chicken feed as well - but I can see that making such a large difference? I'm a little confused on the flushing as it seems like a LOT of liquid lol

My waterfowl drink alot of water daily so I really don't think it is too much but it's about the only way your going to see if it was something she may have eaten. Then you can go next to a nutritional deficiency which would be using liquid B complex.

Can you put her into an area where she can still see everyone but she will have her own food and water? That way you can just offer her water with the charcoal in it in something heavy she can't tip over. a small bucket etc?
