Fly control

It’s that time of year for flies. You can try the usual fly strips, baits, etc. but the hot weather seems to bring them out unfortunately. Good luck

Thank you for your reply, yes I’ve placed the usual fly traps and tried some baits. with some of the baits I’ve kept my distance not wanting to harm my birds.

:welcome :frow I use permethrin. Recently the fly population started exploding around my coops. Originally I used the permethrin for mites a couple of years ago and at the same time had flies. I was amazed at how it also eliminated the flies. Recently I have been doing treatments because I suspect some mites in one coop (the kind that feed on the birds at night while they are roosting). I have checked the birds over and haven't seen anything but they have had a little feather loss so I suspect the roost mites, but it has also been eliminating the flies. The birds are getting their feathers back in where they have had some loss. I do have poop pits under my coops under the roosts that I thoroughly spray too. I currently have around 400 birds so there is always poop. I do clean out the poop pit but not every day. I spray thoroughly in the coops everywhere I can and I also spray in the poop pits. It has been controlling my fly population. I hate when I go out to fill the feeders and flies land all over me especially on my skin. They like sweat. I usually spray once weekly for 3/4 weeks. You can get permethrin at TSC. They carry the permethrin poultry dust, premixed spray bottles and the concentrate. No egg withdrawal period. I also put some of the dust in the nest boxes. I did do a couple of weekly sprays and will be doing another today. Good luck...
