I reluctantly clipped my hens and two immediately flew right out of the enclosure. What can I do? Two years ago every chicken I had disappeared (while roosting inside at night) without a trace -- no mess, no feather, nothing. Trying to keep them safe.

Did you clip one or both wings? The easiest and hardest solution is to add inches to the enclosure or put a roof on it.

I've never had to clip mine, but from what I've read it may work better to do just one wing—it unbalances them.

You can cover your chicken yard with gamebird netting. (Find it online—Amazon has it but I'm sure you can find other suppliers.) People I've seen use a T-support made of 2x4s. I think if it were me, I'd do a 4x4 post with a 2x4 piece across the top and bury the base several feet into the ground. I believe some folks just let the netting hold their support in place though, and I imagine that works just fine.

You’re supposed to only clip one wing because if you clip both they’ll be even again and they’ll be able to fly with little issue.

My first flock started at a different house and had to be in a coop. It consisted of a dominecker roo, a barred rock hen, an Isa brown hen, two RIR and a meat bird. Our fence on the run started out like five foot bc this was our first experience with chickens....yeah the run ended up being like eight feet tall just to keep the suckers in.
