Hey, beginner starting flock of 5-6. I have two Rhode Island Reds & one Barred Rock. None laying yet (3 weeks). Looking to stimulate the one hen who should be laying. Maybe add a Leg Horn or two....thoughts?

You cannot stimulate a pullet or hen into laying. It is controlled by hormones, light, health, diet, lack of stress, etc...They will lay when they are good and ready. LOL

Leghorns are great layers, but can be flighty and crazy. So if you are looking to add to your flock, you might go with some Australorps, Orpingtons, Wyandottes or some larger breed of chicken.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! How old is your hen they should be laying, has she laid before? Please make yourself at home and we are here to help. Like Two Crows said, Leghorns are excellent layers; just not a good choice for a docile chicken. Orpingtons and australorps are the way to go if you are wanting a friendly good layer.
 
Awesome info.. My German Shorthair may be stressing them then. He's still getting use to them. Thank for link also. I'm gonna look into those breeds
