Hi, my family is new to raising chickens. They are about 9 week old Buff Orpingtons. I recently noticed one of the chicken’s eyes looking swollen and bubbling/ foaming. Maybe she was pecked by another chicken? It looks to be an infection to me but I’m not sure how to treat it or what it really is. How should I treat it? Will it spread to the other chickens? Should i separate her? Thank you.

This had also happened to one of my birds. I didnt seperate her, and all the others were fine. You shouldnt seperate her, just treat them all, because some of the other might have the sickness too that are just hiding it. Chickens hide their sicknesses well. When tis happened to me my dad went to tractor supply i think and got like a kit thing, where we had something we would mix in their water, and something we would put a couple drops on our hands and put it under their wings, and on the top of their heads. Only one was sick, like i said, but i treated all four of mine. Now she is happy and healthy, with her sister. Whatever you do, dont freak out. KNowing our luck it probably already spread to the other chickens. Just treat them all, and they should be fine.

Also with me, my rooster got it too, it will spread. But he might have already had it, it just got worse. But then after a while the sickness left and they are healthy again.

what did you treat them with?

It looks like a big scab under the eye, so I would wonder if she has fowl pox or she was pecked or injured around the eye. Eye bubbles can be a symptom of mycoplasma (MG) but with the scab, I would look for other causes. Do you see scabs on the other chickens, or any nasal drainage and frequent sneezing? Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel are both good to use in an infected eye, but you can also just flush it out with saline unless there is pus later. Here is some reading about fowl pox:

Some of the other chickens have small scabs around their beaks but nothing serious
