Fois Gras on Top Chef last night/graphic pix added not by me!!!!!!!

I did not know what Fois Gras was even though I have heard the word before. Now that I know i would never eat it. It sounds cruul just like veal where they keep the poor calves chained up. I do love beef though just not veal.

I raise veal and it is not in crates. It's completely ethical to eat veal which was not confined. 50% of dairy calves born are males. They are generally shot in the head shortly after birth. At least using them for veal gets some use out of them. Think about it every time you drink a glass of milk, we are all in part responsible. To me, it's ethical to eat veal.

Regarding fois gras, a few cities banned it, then later over turned the ban. Why? Well, as mentioned, lots of animals we eat are treated worse. Secondly, the ammount of fois grois consumed is so miniscule, why bring down the mighty arm of the law on something that hardly anyone eats? I personally think it's delicious. And it will never be 'banned' since it's a birth rite to eat if you are from many european counties.

Not all veal is stalled. There are some that are raised ethically. Veal is simply calf meat, it does not stand for how the calves are raised. Like greyfields stated, a lot of veal is extra males from the dairy industry. Kind of like what the hatcheries do for their fryers, they are the leftover males of the other breeds. A nearby college raises Jersey cows, a dairy breed, for one of their educational programs and the young unwanted males are sold for $50 as veal, pets, or however you want to use the calf.

But think about the ducks that do suffer then die even if just a few people eat it. At least to me, a few duck lives has the same value as a lot. JMHO.

P.S. I really hope I didn't sound rude, because I didn't mean to. I don't really want to argue, just state what I think.
