It's a beautiful coop, makes me want another one. Are you concerned about predators at all? I know the chicken owners in my area really aren't and the guy building our coop and run was bemused by how fort knoxy I wanted it.

That aside, yours is really a lovely looking build.

I think predators are always on the mind of chicken owners. I believe our most worrisome predators in my area are mostly nocturnal; raccoons, fox, coyotes. I'm not as worried about those due to how solid it is when they're in the coop.

But maybe I'm wrong.

I plan to do a less secure open run area to let our girls play in the compose and spent garden area. Our (probably) only broad daylight risks are hawks and dogs and we've encouraged crows to keep the hawks away and a 6' fence to keep dogs out.

Yeah, every morning I throw a big scoop of cheap dog food out in front of our house. The crows know it and watch for me. DP said she'd heard that crows drive off hawks (and I've seen them do it) plus a pair of crows are nesting in one of the pines behind our house.

Interesting! We have quite a few crows that hang around our property, so I'd be interested to know how they impact Hawks, etc. I don't see or notice Hawks around.

I have lots of hawks here.
The crows do chase them off, I do not feed the crows.
My birds are safe, but fun to watch the crows do their thing.
