Food and Water in the run VS in the coop?

I agree- Summit Co in Ohio is just as bad. Mine have use of the coop or run during the day, free range in the evening. I have water in the run, food and water in the coop. This keeps the food dry, and the woodland squirrels and chipmunks out of the feeder!

I have one of each inside and outside - but during the winter they'll have to be inside - or if its raining - I'll put it all inside. Don't want it getting all wet and moldy.
Everyone is differnt though.

I'm afraid to let my girls free range during the day when I'm not home - too many people's dogs get loose, and there's a hawk in the area that has attacked the neighbors chickens. Wish I could, though - they love to be out looking for goodies under the leaves at the edge of the yard !

They get mad at me when I don't let them out - giving me their little chicken growl and pacing by the door.

Before we moved I kept the food inside and the water outside next to the run wire. I poked the water hose through the chicken wire and went in and rinsed the water bucket and ran fresh water everyday. I made a little spot where the water I poured out pooled up but ran out slow. They loved to walk in it and drink it while I was running fresh water. In the hot weather I would let the bucket run over a few minutes so they could walk in the cool water.

I keep the feed inside to keep it dry.

Now that we moved and haven't been able to put the run back on the water and food is both inside. I pour out the dirty water at a corner where it runs out of the coop, then clean out the bucket and run fresh.

I don't like the idea of food and water in my hen house:
Firstly: there is no room
Secondly: I don't like the idea of potentially inviring unwanted visiters into the house, and
Thirdly: It means my girls are hungry in the morning and will eat their pellets

On my tractor/train, the feed and water are in the run. There is a 3-walled part of the run where I put the feed to keep it dry, water is conveniently located for ME (haha they have to move a whole 8ft to get to it) to be able to change or add more during the heat of the afternoon.

I intend to put feed inside their larger coop that is under construction, but still keep the water outside because I tried it inside ONE time and it leaked/they spilled all over and I had to change the fresh shavings out.

Mine get food and water in and out of the coop.

Make it easier on those I'm trying to integrate into the flock.

I keep their feed in the run. It's so much easier for me to feed and water and they still can scratch the ground with out making a mess inside. The mess they make inside is quit enough for me to clean up.
I will point out one thing. Unlike most who post, I live in Florida, so the winters aren't so harsh as they are up north or out west.
