hi Ive been lurking around for a while now and finally decided to post

should i keep food and water for my girls inside or outside and what are the best kind of feeders and waterers

First of all:welcome. I keep my food and water out in the run for my 15 hens. I have a 30lb gravity type feeder that I fill as needed. This winter I'm using a 3 gallon Farmtek heated waterer which has worked well for me. For some it has been a problem. There are many different types of feeders and waterer's. If you use the search function on here you'll find many suggestion's and ideas for feeding and watering. Best of luck to you...

My chooks have food and water inside the coop, in case I'm late getting out there in the morning and to protect it from the elements (and other critters that would eat it). They have several waterers outside.
Treats I feed exclusively outside.

I have water outside all year round, winter time, I put a heater in one of the big plastic animal food and waterers, I feed the bird inside except for a few treats, and somew scratch, I have 2 hanging feeders in my big coop and one in the little one.

Works for me!

I have both inside and outside. I use a mixture of feeders/waterers. Indoors I have a round, plastic 1 gal. feeder and a round metal 2 gal waterer (sits on a lightbulb pedestal to keep the water warm). Outside, my waterer is a heavy duty rubber bowl from Tractor Supply and my feeder is the homemade 5 gallon bucket type.

I keep food inside the coop so when they're locked up at night, critters are not attracted to feed, and during really bad weather, the girls have everything they need inside. I keep water both inside and out in 11 gallon storage tanks with gravity waterers.

I put a roof over part of my run so I hang my 30 lb. feeder off of one of the boards under the roof. If your feed insn't protected then it could get wet and ruin it. The only time I have a problem is when the wind is blowing hard from the east (doesn't happen often, but it has happened). I keep water out in the run all the time. When it's below freezing i have a heated 3 gal waterer I got from Tractor Supply. I run an extension cord out to the run for the heated waterer.
