food grade DE

Has anyone used Food Grade DE around your house for pest control...like keeping ants, spiders, beetles, and roaches from coming into the house? It sounds like it would work as long as it was kept dry...

Your last statement is correct. But applied outside what are the chances of it staying dry? Pretty much zero, even if it didn't rain moisture evaporating from the ground would reduce its effectiveness. In home application should be done on the sill of the foundation and other areas where insects will roam.

I never heard of DE before I had chickens. Having been in my house for almost 20 years I had noticed this white substance on the sill and behind the walls of my basement and just assumed it was calcium that leached out of the concrete. Enter chickens, buy DE then light dawns on Marblehead as to what the white substance is.
