I've been really trying to lose weight and just be healthier overall since my mom had emergency heart surgery back before Christmas. I'm really trying to learn about what's good, what's bad, etc. A friend of mine has been really great helping me with food choices etc. He really knows. Something else he suggested was watching a movie called "Food Inc." It came out in 2008, but being that back then, I probably didn't care all that much about food choices, I never saw it.

Well, I ordered it and watched it this afternoon. OMG folks.... That's some scary (insert expletive).

Makes me want to buy a little farm, raise my own food, and never buy anything from a store again. If you haven't seen in, it's defiantly worth it.

I read 1984 as a teenager, did you all? Who knew that "big brother" would show up in the food industry? Very scary stuff!!

What is even more scary is the way many people react to it!! I have hear so many folks say they "...couldn't believe that some of the chickens weren't even dead before they were dunked in scalding hot water!!!" And I am thinking - "THAT is what you got out of that film!!!??? You either weren't paying attention or you don't understand some of the basic concepts of America"

Yeah, I make it a point to shop for small independent company's products and do a lot of hunting so we don't have to buy meat. Next on my list is a local produce farm co-op.

As I'm watching the movie all these thoughts are running through my head of buying a little farm, having chickens, pigs, beefers, a nice veggie garden, etc. Maybe a nice apple orchard? All I'm lacking is the several hundred thousand dollars to bring that dream out of my skull!

Great movie, watched it twice and would definitely watch it again. Has totally changed my view of eating as far as purchasing meat and foodstuffs from the grocery. Will definitely buy local when I can!! Recommend that everyone watch it.
