Food Scraps?

Of course. All waste food goes into the "**** pits" where the stables and pens are cleared out. The chickens find this irresistible and scrat about in the pits for hours. They even pinch the cat and dog food and help themselves to the buckets of horse feed right under the noses of the horses. It is not unusual to fin a large hairy nose and half a dozen beaks in the same bucket...

Fasting a dog is a normal thing to do. People fast themselves. So do dogs. If I ever have a dog get sick (diarrhea/vomit) I indeed irately fast them for 24 hours. It doesn't fuel the fire and starts letting their stomach feel better. Canines would not kill on every hunt and therefore would fast that day/night. It's not harsh. They're animals that we've brought in and adapted to our world.

Some say not letting them run free is harsh treatment. Just in the way you look at it.

Oh, now I know what you mean, and they get people food which they enjoy, well, then you are a pretty good dog owner:)

lol,,,I personally like giving my chickens and animals some of my scraps because I'm buying good-quality food /organic food, and when I can get any of the grocers to give me some food there going to throw away which is next to never, I like to give it to my animals because most of what they're selling is locally grown or organically grown. :)
I noticed that some of my animals will fast when they're not feeling well, and just take in some water. I don't worry about that as long as they're getting fluids. And I know in time when they're feeling better they'll eat. And the same with my kids, you know I never worry as long as they're getting some fluids in. When the body feeling better then they will go back to their eating schedule. :D

Here's a fact my grandfather had a large farm with a lot of barn cats he did not feed the cats if they did not eat the mice and birds out of the barn they did not eat They never got kibbles he only gave them water and some milk from the cows they were healthy cats they multiplied and lived so what's the difference with fasting a dog. I say theirs nothing wrong with it. And he fed his chickens garbage just like we do and we are alive and healthy too. Also his dog was never tied up and spoiled like the they are today he had working dogs and cats. All of his animals lived healthy long lives as he did. So I have to agree with Pap's way . And our way of feeding our animals He would be proud of us doing things the OLD way.
And buy the way did Little house on the prairie buy dog food / kibbles? .

So no one argues with me I don't have a dog. So don't go their with me. Its my personal choice not to own one.

I prefer the old school way as well.

People nowadays are on soapboxes about their pets. It's become almost normal to bring your dog to the store in a lot of places. As it becomes more normal, people think you should be doing it as well. They think because they take their dog to the groomer or vet that they are better pet owners. It's not a competition last time I checked. I would never pay to feed something that I didn't get something in return from. Are you kidding me, carrying a dog in a purse? ***? I can't help but look and laugh.

I groom my own animals and prepare their food as well. It would be easier to buy a bag of dog food but I KNOW BETTER. we don't want to feed ourselves processed food but we will feed it to our dogs. Things sure are backwards.

400

This is my little compost pile. They eat what they want and then I turn the pile over.

I love the idea of using your chickens to turn the compost pile! I'm so bad at remembering to do that. Maybe I will have to start putting my compost in the chicken pen.

I get produce scraps from the grocer and dump it in there. What they haven't eaten by the next day it so gets turned it. This is my first time composting. Chickens do it in no time.
