My mom doesn't like fish, so we never had it. Now I
love pretty much any kind of fish, in any preparation, especially sushi. I didn't know what sushi was when I was a kid, but I'm sure I would've refused to try it. The only kind of sushi I've tried so far that I haven't liked was sea urchin....ew. Not a fan of the texture; it's like eating a wet sock (no, I haven't actually eaten any wet socks. But that's what I imagine).
My mom did make a lot of beef, but not well. Actually,
too well. That was one of the problems. I hated steak until I had a filet mignon medium rare when I was 20, and now that's the only kind of steak I eat. I have steak very rarely.
Did not like cake as a kid. We'd have pie on my birthday. Now I'm happy to have either one.
Did not like spaghetti as a kid, and still don't. My parents were the "You're going to sit there until you've cleaned your plate" kind of people, and I spent many nights watching a plate of pasta with tomato and meat sauce growing cold. Now that I can choose my own food, I go for something creamy or with pesto.
