Foot abcess

My Sultan rooster has a strange abcess- like bump on his foot. I don't think it's just swollen from a feather being pulled out... Should I cut it open and drain it? Or should I leave it alone? Also, is it contagious?

Looks almost like ingrown feather that got infected. I would see if the blackened part would come off and any puss or discharge will come out. Then use antibiotic ointment on it for a few days to allow it to heal.
