I noticed that a hen limping a bit this morning. She has a bit of skin on the back of her foot peeling. I dunk her foot in an epsom salt bath salt, cleaned the area with betadine, applied polysporin and wrapped her foot with a vet tape. I am not sure what happened to her foot though, stepped on something, or mites or ??? I need opinions on her injury.

That looks like an injury on something sharp. Do you have sharp gravels or other material that she could have stepped on? Bumblefoot infections which are small abscesses of the footpads, can begin with a tiny cut or puncture.

The chickens are free range and there are rocks and stones all over the place. I will keep her foot clean and wrap with vet tape until it heals. Would it be the right treatment for this?

Yes that sounds alright. I have rocky soil, especially when I first got chickens, and the gravels and other things were rough on my hens’s feet. It helps to use a good bedding or sand in your coop and run for when they are jumping down. Keep bedding as dry as possible.

The betadine and polysporin work, and some also use sugar or honey and betadine, then wrapped for a couple of days between bandage changes.
