There was never a black spot or open area but there was swelling in her back toe. She doesn’t really limp at all now, but the toe remains swollen. Can anyone tell me if this is bumblefoot without a spot, and if so, how would I know where the infection is? She is walking better so I hesitate to be invasive but not sure this is normal. (The black spot at the end of her toe is dirt and came off with some rubbing. Also, the reddish area is the same as her other foot so don’t think that’s anything). I thought it could have been a sprain jumping from her roost in her coop or something, but shouldn’t the swelling have gone down by now?

What do you feed?

If you are not seeing a scab, then I would take a wait and see approach. You can soak the foot in a warm epsom salts bath for several days to see if that helps with the swelling.

The redness looks like hormones to me - you often see that in light colored legs - it indicates the bird is in lay.

If it is always wet were you live that could be the reason. But it looks like bumble foot to treat it mix epson salt and warm water hold her foot in it for one minute every day till it goes away.

Can you post a picture of both feet to see if one looks swollen compared to the other? I would agree to soak her feet in warm Epsom salts for 20 minutes a day, to see if that helps. A sprain may have caused her limping. With foot swelling, I always look for a hidden or forgotten leg band that has slipped up, a string or even a hair that has become wrapped around the leg.

I think mine got a hair wrapped around her toe. I took the wait and see approach, soaking in Epsom salt whenever I get the chance and now the tip of the toe if dried black but not red or even swollen. Think my hair that's past my waist wrapped around and amputated it or she injured it as she is the very flighty and the most active one out of all ten, she's a PBR. When my hair was long when my daughter was little I found her toe wrapped with my hair and purple after fitting to the point I stripped her down to see if there was anything wrong with her skin! My hair strands must be street ng lol! But I can't seem to get it to tie off and amputated a mole?!(old trick to get rid of a raised mole!)

We feed organic feed (non soy) name is escaping me at moment but they also free range and get scraps. Thank you for advice! I didn’t know that about the redness.

It was wet for a while there with a lot of spring rains but hasn’t been for a while. I will try the Epsom salts. I didn’t realize you could use that if there was not a scab showing.

Here is the other foot compared to the swollen, and I will definitely try the Epsom salts!

The same thing happened to one of my daughters twice actually… One time was worse than the other. But she was an infant and I was thankful to have caught it when I did. I felt terrible!
