I just bought the Brinsea Spot Check thermometer. It has accuracy of +/- 0.1. This thing is just awesome!!! I could kick myself for not ordering this before.

No more worrying about the temp being correct.

I just ordered 2 Spot Checks, one for each of my Hovabators 1588.
I have a Radio Shack thermo/hygrometer combo that's accurate on measuring humidty every time I calibrate it, but I'm not sure I trust it much on temp. But the last 2 hatches did hatch on day 21.
For fun I put two of the glass thermometers that came with the bators next to each other in one of the bator and one is reading 94F and the other is reading 104F.

The RS one is reading 99.5F most of the time.

I ordered it from Amazon, but it came from Double R Supply. I noticed Amazon doesn't have it on their site anymore. I have a separate hygrometer that I calibrated before incubating, so I know how much it is off.

Horsefeathers.......I suppose I could calibrate it if I was concerned about the accuracy. I've read on here from others (like Speckledhen) that bought them and raved about it. It's made specifically for incubating, I do know that. Here's what it says on my Instructions for Use:

The instrument is specifically designed for use in incubators to give a continuous readout at an exceptional level of accuracy - in the order of 20 times the accuracy of general purpose digital thermometers widely available. The instrument operates over a narrow temperature band, 32 to 42 degrees C. Below and above this range it will not indicate. It may be damaged by high temperatures. Do not immerse in boiling water. The probe is hermetically sealed and will not be damaged by cool water. However, it should not be exposed to corrosive chemicals or solvents and should only be cleaned with soapy water or alcohol. A range switch is provided to allow reading in either Celsius or Fahrenheit. Battery life in continuous use is usually about 6 weeks. An off switch is provided to save battery life when not required.

I ordered one too yesterday - on ebay - there was one more left on a buy-it-now...
It'll come too late for my eggs - I have 3 thermometers in there at the moment, all giving different readings, so am going by the middle one and keeping fingers crossed...
If the spot check arrives and says the first or third thermometer is right then my eggs are past saving - as one is too low and one is too high

Hope the spot check is all it promises to be...

How much are they? (If this was addressed already, I am sorry!)

I think mine was $26.95 + a couple of bucks shipping on ebay.
They were selling them for 24.95 a few weeks back.

a bit pricey, but I figured my shipped eggs cost a similar amount and it could save me that in over/under cooked eggs in no time...
