Hi! A peahen has been roaming my garden and driveway for the last couple of days and I would like to ask a few questions about them.

Are they okay with cats?

Are they okay to roam free?

What is the best thing to feed them with?

Do they need more sun or more shade?

When do they lay eggs and what can you use them?

Are they noisy during the night?

Do they need shelter?

How high can they fly?

Thank you for reading and please reply with any answers!

Thanks,

Grogan02

They are fine with cats.
They are fine to roam free until they decide to make a nest on the ground and a predator gets them. :(
They love Poultry or game bird feed and hard cat food. Along with lots of other stuff.
Sun or shade, they like either, but will usually spend the hottest part of the day in the shade.
They lay eggs during the breeding season, usually April thru Aug. approx. They are just as good as any chicken eggs, my son loves them as dippys.
Hens are not generally noisy day or night. Males are the "Blow Hards"
Shelter is good especially in the winter.
They can fly as high as they want.

The males can be aggressive towards people though it is rare. Cats are tolerated unless one gets to close to the little ones or makes a cock bird angry (I've had to rescue my 2 tomcats a couple times). They are pretty quiet most of the time unless it's breeding season or if something startles them.
