For all you dog trainers...picking a puppy from a litter?

There is no such thing as a bad puppy or bad dog.... Only bad enviroments or owners. They each have a unique personality and we have found that most people pick a pup according to how they look (markings/color).

I disagree. Genetics play a strong role in personality, be it human or dog. Just like humans, dogs can be born with a bad temperament....which is why most people want to see the parents and what demeanor they have. That age old question of nature vs. nurture rears its head on this debate....I've always held with the idea that both play a distinctly important role in the personalities of both human and dogs.

If you will go to breed descriptions on any website about dogs, they list extensively the typical traits of each breed...stubborn, needs a strong hand in training, easy to train, loyal, sweet, aggressive, intelligence, timid, etc.

They are so cute!

Didn't get to pick most recent addition here.

A neighbor had pups and decided since I lost my husband that we need another dog.

Had her since Monday. Housebreaking is done. Thank goodness not even an accident. She is also too young to remove from mom. 7 weeks now. In California it's the law to not offer a puppy under 8 weeks. People do it though. I prefer they stay with the litter for socialization purposes. I know the mamma in this case has weaned them and she had a large litter, so better for her to not have them harrassing her.

She's a sweetheart, very smart, a little drivey, but not so much I'm worried about her. The biggest defeat of training is the people who a pup is exposed to. It's so much harder to train people.

I haven't bred a litter in a couple of years. Just don't have the funds to put out to do it right, so I don't. I can say that when I place a pup, I can pick the pups best suited to the buyer before they even see them. No experience? You need to pick from this group. Kids? This one. Working dog or show? Here you go. Anyone who breeds dogs needs to know what they are producing, have tests and be honest enough to walk away from a sale if the pup and buyer are not a match.

I hope you have lots of good luck with your little cuties.

Don't know if it will work, but here's a pick of my grand daughter and the new pup, Dusty.

Papered, but she's a little wolfy for my taste. Cute as heck and smart though.

Sire is longer coated. He's very nice and very big. Mom is very nice looking dog.

I thought the guy was going to take her back actually.

He tought since I lost my husband and lived in a pretty bad area that I need a dog for protection. I told him I have a 115 Cane Corso and he said he had never heard her so didn't know about her. Then he asked if I still wanted the puppy and I told him sure if it was alright. Brought me her paperwork the next day (well the litter registration anyway) and brought mom and dad for me to see. Wish I had thought to take pics of them too.
