?? for Ameraucana and Araucana Breeders

I am looking at some of my new pullet's eggs and was wondering what the rest of you would do. The eggs on the left are what I usually keep as breeders as long as the chicken looks correct according to standard. The eggs on the right are very blue and very green, would you consider hatching from these? There is also a brown and a couple green eggs on the top added for contrast.

The picture does not do any of these eggs justice. The new eggs in person look like real colored easter eggs.

I would hatch from the very blue eggs and see how they turn out. Mark them when they hatch and see what the eggs are like, or if you get a roo from a very blue egg, keep him and mate him to some of the pullets from the same color eggs, or even the very green eggs. Make a strain within a strain, have some darker blue egg laying birds and keeo breeding for darker blue eggs from those birds, so you have great ameraucanas with great type and dark eggs. When we had our true araucanas we kept the roos from the darker blue eggs because we were told that the roos carry the egg color gene.

Woo hoo, I got my picture to be larger.

I already breed with roos from the best egg and try only to hatch and keep girls from the best eggs. These particular eggs are like I said, really blue and really green mixed. I don't know if the green will go away.

It would be awesome to get some girls who laid their pure blues this dark.....

Anyway any more ideas.... hinkjc??

I got one blue Amercuana pullet that came from a breeder out of WA and her parentage stock was Cree....she just laid some pretty green blue eggs...not the light blue I get out of my Amercuana bantams. Its a hard color to keep on the lines but with her egg color, if I cross her with the blue egg roo, then her eggs probably would be blue greenish in color. I am supposed to get another Black Amercuana hen soon from a lady down in FL, who she is also from Cree stock, and yet not laid.

I am guessing these girls may be from your stock if I am correct. Unless Cree Amercuanas are from WA.

Lisa and Gary Cree are in Washington. They are over on the coast, while Pips and I are on the east side of the state. There is also Ramona Iwan that has some great ameraucanas, it could have been her too.

Eggs on the left. Did they come from a wheaton by some chance? There seems to be a difference in the blue depending on type in the breed. With araucana and ameraucana both parents carry the blue gene. The green can be bred out through enough careful selection and careful record keeping on all birds and results of breeding combinations.
