Hi all fellow Australians,
I just want some advice on brands for feed you use for Jap Quail chicks as I just lost my first batch of chicks after 7 days to what I suspect was wrong food with to much calcium.
I fed them ground up Game layer/finisher pellets.
I have done some research and there seems the following brands
Vella Chick Starter
Pekish Game Bird starter
Bostic Chick Starter
Watsons and Williams Chick Starter

My next batch are due to hatch soon so any advice would be great

Fyi there is a another brand Gamebird they have 3 stages, starter, maintain and finish.

Google Gamebird starter, it's made by luckemills in South Australia.

No idea if it's good or not for your needs. .just that I am using the starter for my quails I got last week. (@ 6 weeks old)

Starter has the highest protein at 28%

So far so good.

@JamieLangford4

I also use Lauke Mills Game Bird Starter. Everyone I know uses it as well. I also use this on my adult birds.

Luke mils it is
Keeping my fingers crossed for this batch
I candled last night and looks like all are fertile and are developing

Your young birds that died would have definitely been killed by an overdose of calcium. You shouldn't feed them layer or finisher pellets until they are no longer juveniles. The calcium overload will kill them for sure. Always read the back of the bag, it will say who to feed it to: is, ducks over 4 weeks, turkeys over 6 weeks, chickens over 4 weeks etc. You can wait until you get a first egg to change all the hens to a layer pellet, just to be sure
