Well my second broody finally did get a gosling three days ago, yay! She has been on that nest way longer than one month. A good week ago I managed to retrieve two rotten eggs from her nest. I was really surprised that after that she did get one gosling.
So the problem is... the little gosling gets left behind outside the hutch somehow. Of course, the entrance to the hutch is so closely guarded, the gosling will not go back in, but tends to take shelter along the outside wall of the nest. Looks like the gosling knows mother goose is just behind the wall.
Making things even more tricky, about a week ago, another goose decided to get broody just a couple of feet away. At least her eggs should be closer to the same age.
I could try to saw a small opening for the gosling to go back in. Riiiight!
While the other geese don't seem to be too rough with the gosling, and they will guard him and sit down close by, the herding is not working.
I really do not know how much the gosling is able to drink or eat. Was hoping that goose would come off the nest for good...
