I thought I would put up a post for first time hatching people on say day 19. After lockdown.
It is very important to keep the incubator closed, as we all know. Recently I was hatching eggs and I wanted to keep track the time of the hatching steps. Most people will not see this at lockdown, but, I had one egg (which I was candling before lockdown) I noticed it had pipped the inside membrane, and was in the air cell end (Large end ). I kept note of how long it took from punching the outside shell (The pip.) It took 12 hrs. Once the pip happens the egg can rest from 12 to 24 hrs before it zips. So please be patient! No it is not trapped and it doesn't need help. And you must keep the incubator closed or you could endanger the others. The pip doesn't mean it is ready to hatch, it is gathering air, which helps it to finish absorbing the blood and the rest of the egg contents through the belly button. (When people help an egg hatch they always ask..."why is the egg bleeding and why is his belly button weird??" Because it came out of the egg too soon.
Below is the same egg after a pip, and 6 hrs later.
.
You may be tempted to help but it is not ready...
Below is same egg 14 hrs later...
Just know it can take up to 24 hrs from pip to zip, that is okay. Sit on your hands and before you know it you will have babies. It is okay to ask questions. but hopefully this post will help answer some of your questions. And what to expect.
