For the rooster ppl, yet another odd question

That sounds right. They’re lunatics I tell ya. I’ve bought nesting boxes, made nesting boxes and they seem to prefer a 5 gallon buck they turned over. I’m like fine girls, do what you and your picking butts want.

Mine prefer a milk crate I sat in there over the 3 we built.

Yes they do! It’s literally a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot, I think it was free. The first couple I bought were like $35 a peice. They use them to perch on, they will not use them. And I bought a chicken ramp, idk $40 or something. Do they use it? Nope. They use a board I had in there while building roosts. I was like “oh yall are kidding right?!” Now I don’t buy anything until I try to upcycle first.

Exactly. Bomgaars sells a $200+ nesting box thing wuth 6 boxes. I was like, ha, my chickens wouldn't give that the time of day.

I know alot of people really want to spoil their chickens with fancy things for them to use. But chances are, they would rather hop up to something instead of using a fancy ramp. Or they would rather perch on a tree branch instead of a high quality roosting bar. You could also buy them the best nesting box on the market and they wouldn't care. They would rather turn to laying eggs in a bucket or the corner of the coop. Or, in my case, on a random netted dog bed base I had put in their run for them to sun bathe on.

I think my girls are spiteful. They’re still mad I changed their feed from starter to laying lol. And apparently they think I control the weather. It’s been pouring the rain here for a couple days, and the girls are pooping right a the threshold of the coop door-right where I step. It’s on purpose

My chickens like rain a little too much... they look pathetic when they are covered in rain. Look like a wet dog after an unwilling bath.

The first night I was deworming my chickens, I had one clean spot on the floor where I was sitting to deworm them. In the middle of doing it, I had sat back down to deworm another chicken, and someone had pooped where I was sitting!!

My girls are the opposite. They hate the rain. Even a light drizzle and run for the coop like a hawk is after them. My little rooster on the other hand.. he’s a Cochin and he’s got long feathers on his feet. Maybe 4-5 inches long, you can’t see his feet at all just white feathers. When it rains he’s out and about trying to get as muddy as possible! So I give him a bath, and he’s perfectly calm..but he’s thinking “next time you bend over, I’m biting your butt”.

I hadn't until they got worms. I have read that it would be good to deworm them in the fall when they are more likely to be cooped up inside, thus passing worms to eachother. And in the Spring because that is when everything is hatching out and it is raining more, giving the worms more chance to spread.

My chickens got tapeworm. I have tried deworming them multiple times and it hasn't done much. This time I used Safeguard liquid dewormer. I only had enough for 4 days with the chickens instead of the 5 though, which I hope does not cause too many problems..
