For Those Who Do Not Yet Know...

If you need powdered sugar and don't have any.
Place table sugar in a blender and pulverize it.
Remember, 1cup of table sugar does not = 1 cup of powdered sugar.

My first cake when I was 9 I did this. I couldn't understand why I ran out of salt for the icing. It was GROSS!!! my mother took pictures but then threw it away cause she was afraid we'd all die for trying to eat it! Let me tell you, the first bite was a surprise!!!

I once made some sort of chicken and noodle dish, maybe chicken tetrazzini, which had boullion in it, and really tasted pretty good. After supper, I found the two cups of diced cooked chicken I had forgotten to add....

Yay, so I am not alone in that mix up. I did mine when I was around 12 though, lol.

I made miniature chocolate lava cakes with my son to give to my husband for father's day and I put 1 1/4 cups oil and 1/2 cup water and started mixing it all up before I realized I mixed up the measurements.

Waaay back when, I put salt in DH's coffee, thinking it was sugar- worse, there was no more coffee in the house, and we both had exams the next day- AND it was 2 am.

He quit drinking coffee, and I quit making coffee.

Good on you for making a cake for your Dad! Mine would never eat my cooking!

You have a dad that's still living to make a cake for and he has a daughter that loves him enough to try and make that cake. Isn't that what's important?

Once upon a time, my then young teen daughter and her friend across the street were going to make a batch of cookies. They were making them across the street at the friend's house. All of a sudden they show up and asked for "white eggs" - because the recipe called for 'white' eggs and all the friend's mom had was brown eggs. After I got a hold of my laugh - I said "honey are you sure the recipe doesn't call for egg whites?" She said "yeah, so like I said we need white eggs" I had to explain that eggs whites and white eggs were not the same thing. Then I proceeded to show them how to extract just the whites of the egg.

We still laugh about it today.

Awwww!! If it ever happens again, put that icing in a pan and cook it on the stove. Add a bit of milk after the sugar melts, and some butter. Best hard icing that you could ask for! My grandma (gosh I miss her!) always made the hard/fudge icing for her cakes. ALways from scratch cakes, and boy were they good!!!
