For those who use a dog kennel for a coop, I'd love to see pictures...

TaLani,
Could you post pics of the tunnel you used to attach the run to the coop?

This is my old set up, from about 10 years ago when I first got chickens (3) and lived in the rural suburbs. It was located in the fenced in dog yard, so we didn't have much of a problem with predators as the dogs were out there many times a day and night. Now that I'm in the true country, and am dealing with lots more predators (and way more chickens), I am once again going to use dog runs. Just not sure about how to join up the coop and run.

Here is a pic of ours, We got ours with this already done. We put the coop against this but because of the overhang on the roof of the coop we had a bit of a gap on both sides so I tacked up hardware cloth. We have since expanded it to make it 12 ft wide by 22 ft long and are still situating it so it is currently vacant.

The coops are on the outside of the pen. There are better pics on MY PAGE. Take a visit to see closer pics. Gena

lovinlife or TaLani.........I wanted to do PVC pipe you like did on my pens to keep the chicken wire from sagging down so much, but couldn't figure it out. Could you explain a little better how you did it, or show pics? I hate to ask for more, but I really, really want to know how to do this! I ended up with a temp solution, but I really want to do it the way you did.

Thank you!

Dog run with smaller run + house for nightime lockup. They are in the run during the day and also free ranging outside of the run later in the day. I've worried some about the run having an open top but so far nothing has ever happened during the day. I cant tell if most people enclose the top when using dog runs or just leave them open, seems like both scenarios here.

I use mine as a run off of the coop - it is normally covered with chicken wire but I am building the new coop and needed to remove it. I am hoping to put a real roof over the run once the coop is finished.

My dog pen was only 4 feet high. When I got my pullets, they were small enough that they might have been able to squeeze through the chain link. I put chicken wire around the bottom to avert this AND to keep raccoons from pulling birds through the chain link. Because I wanted more height, I used the forth panel to support the roof, which is chicken wire.
