For those who's spouses don't play along....

I had gotten 9 chicks 4 weeks ago and my husband was happy to see them and thought they were cute, but no way was he holding one.lol. I was at the feed store yesturday and they had some red cochin bantams. Oh I couldn't resist! (none of my reds made it in the shipment with the others

) So he gets home and looks and asks why? So I told him I really wanted some reds but none of them made it with the others and he was soo happy for me to had found some anyways

That was just too funny! But, you kinda gave me an idea.... I have 12 chicks (pullets) in the large dog crate brooder that are 3 weeks old today. The feed store still has more... I could go down there and pick up another 6 for a total of 18. Wonder if he would notice?

He's building the coop and run for me (coop is almost finished). The coop is 6'x10' and the run will be 16'x10'. So if I use the rule of thumb: coop 4 ft2/chicken and run 8 ft2/chicken... let's see....

well, according to my calculations, I could add 3 more in the coop or 8 more in the run.... Hmmm....

Good job! I did that with a peacock, just threw it in with the rest of my babies. This was after he said NO PEACOCKS. It wasn't until they were outside in a grow out pen that he FINALLY said, "what IS that?" To late so sad......

You know I heard a similar story about horses. I cannot remember exactly where but I believe it was from the wife. The wife had a couple of bay (brown) horses. They had acres upon acres of pasture somewhere out west. The horses were out 24/7. Over the years she collected a few more bays and ended up with 5 or 6. Her husband never noticed. Usually he only saw them when a one or two would come closer to the house for water or something. Then one day they all showed up and he was a little surprised. I do believe they eventually divorced....

Ha ha! I'm tempted to do that. I just wear my husband down by talking about them constantly so that the actual chickens are better than having to hear about how great they're going to be one more time...
