forcing broody

    most my hens are a year old or older..how do i get one to go broody so i get new chicks thisyear? my wifes started just leaving 12 eggs in one box they seem to be sharing sitting on over the last few days.will one of them kinda take control and set on the all the time?

    They should but its never a guarentee, you can't really force them to go broody. WIth my seramas i have noticed the hens lay consistantly for about 10 days then they go broody. This time i left all the eggs in the nest from the flock and got 2 broodies instead of one [​IMG] Make sure you mark the eggs so you know which ones are for hatching and which ones are freshly laid
