Fort Waddles

Okay, i have ointment with no pain reliever ( funnily enough, I’m allergic to the ones that have it ). I just can’t figure out how she even got it other than it happened while she was still AT the hatchery. The box looked fine and wasn’t damaged at all, so I’m at a loss. I can’t imagine the other ducklings being able to crush her bill. Looking at it more, it kind of looks like she had it up against something hot.
Yeah, I agree it must have happened at the hatchery. :(

As excited as I am, the runner did come with a cut/scab on the side of her bill. Not sure how that even happened, but should I just put ointment on it until it heals or should it be fine?
Well, it’s healing but not how I hoped. Definitely a bit deformed and when I emailed the hatchery about the ducks in general while attaching pictures and mentioning the wound, they never addressed it. Good news, though, it doesn’t seem to be bothering her or hindering her ability to eat or drink.

So, Shiloh was mounting Pongo today....not Sassafras ( who should be my only male lol ). I can assume it’s a dominance thing?

Shiloh is 14 weeks old and still has female feathering, so dominance is the only thing that makes sense. I did have a 12 week old cockerel mounting a 10 week old pullet today...I think somethings in the air, lol.

Some people say that female ducks mount female ducks for dominance. Maybe that is why some ducks do it in some flocks. But my most dominant female duck frequently requests that my least dominant female duck mounts her... So in my flock I believe they just enjoy it and have a strong natural drive to reproduce. At least, that is what I am assuming from my observations. I do observe a lot, but I think it is impossible to really know what is going on in their duck minds.

They know they’re not supposed to be in the chicken coop....doesn’t stop them from trying.

So, Sassafras is only mating Toffee even though she’s the youngest out of the bunch and should be the last one to start laying. She’s only 12 weeks and 3 days old while every is 17 weeks; with Bazzle being somewhere in between the two.
