Mrs. Turbo :
I might be on my own here but when we go to a chicken show we don't just talk about showing chickens. I think the breed threads bring the breeders together and you really get to know WHO you are buying your birds from, not just a name and pictures. there are some questions that get asked over and over and they pop up pretty quick on the search, but other questions don't and most people don't mind answering them.
I like the central breed club forum that was mentioned a few pages back. The guy that runs it (Matt) is a poultry judge and the post are pretty cut and dry with answers and questions. No one can compete with the traffic on BYC......trust me.
Not on your own, just maybe your position hasn't been answered satisfactorily.
That would still have a place there would be specific chat threads for that breed in the subforum.
I never looked at the Marans thread until I decided they were the best fit Dark Egg Layers (<-would need a subforum)
Then I tried to go through it but its a missmash of Q&A, pictures, discussion about genetics, showing, trying to get APA recognized and that was the first ten pages.
The sub-forums could be ignored as easily as threads but the search function would work better and specific discussion that are popular would be at the top. (Is this a real Amer- or an EE) (Is this a show quality silkie) (How dark are your Eggs)
Also generic questions about breeding and genetics would be in the main section.
In another forum we had a system where a subforum for a request would be corrected if and only if there were XXX number constructive post in the main threads of that topic.
That way every single breed does not need its own subforum, those threads would stay in the main forum GB&S - when the threads have enough constructive post it gets a subforum and that thread gets moved into the that subform.
So generic genetics questions, super rare breeds or general breeding questions would be in the main forum.
Specific breed chats would be under their subforum.
