Not idea how old they are. The girls had stopped laying for winter...or so I thought. Eat them or dump them?

Ha ha I meant the eggs lolYour decision. You know your situation better than we do.
Stew pot, rehome, craigslist them.
I have gotten alot of percieved "spent or used up" hens that when spring arrived, kicked in and laid me eggs aplenty!
I think the OP is talking about the eggs she found and doesn't know how old they are. Should she eat them( eggs) or dump them.Your decision. You know your situation better than we do.

I'd say it's been less than a month? When was the last time you checked for eggs? Out of curiosity, break them open in a dish. They may be fine and they may not. Now and then I find an egg in one of my coops but I still checks the coops daily whether they have been laying or not and now and then I find an egg usually in one of the nest boxes.
I noticed under your avatar that you are from the tip of the little finger of Michigan. I may have asked you before, where? I'm originally from Traverse City. I'm old and my memory isn't what it used to be.OOOPS!
You can do the float test.
Flat bottom pan with cold water, put eggs in, of they float they are rotten, if they stand on end they are questionable, may be good for baking. If they lay on there side on the bottom they are fresh.
Glad you are keeping your chickens!

Probably most BYC members won't agree with me but I have some older eggs I won't sell to my customers so I break them open in a dish when I need some eggs and if they look and smell ok I eat them, cook or bake with them. Mother Earth News did a test several years ago about storing eggs and they had eggs that were still good after several months. I'm also curious, so I like to break them open to see how they are. I do have a fridge just to keep my eggs in.I'd say it's been less than a month?
