Hello and welcome to BYC

Is that him in your avatar? He's gorgeous! If you can build him a nice secure coop I'm sure he'll be happy to stay by you

Especially if you find him some gorgeous ladies to keep him company. Otherwise good luck finding him a good home. Like the above posters said knowing what breed he is will help a lot! And if you want you can place an ad here in the Buy~sell~trade section, but you need to have a post count of 20 + before you can do that.

Yes! that's him. He has a beautiful big long tail (greenish iridescent )and a pretty comb. We think we found a nice older couple that has a big farm that would be "happy" to have him if he gets along with their one rooster. They don't have any chickens, so she said they might get along just fine. It's about an hour away so we're going to drive him up there and check the place out. I was emphatic about him not being for food or fighting. We'll see. Feeling like this might work out for him nicely!

Got a call from a lady in farm area of Rocky Mount NC.She said she has a big farm and one rooster that is free range, but she has a barn for shelter. She said she was just telling her husband a day or so before that she thought her single rooster seemed lonely. She only has one and no hens. She asked if we would bring him to her farm and we could see if they get along.

We're going to drive him out there in a couple hours. I specifically said he needs to be a pet and not 'food' or fighting! She agreed. We'll see if she is a noble being and I'll let you know by evening. Thanks and have a great day! ( he didn't crow this morning because we had him covered in a crate in the garage. When I peeked in and hand fed him, he did a basking sound and then ate. So cute! Not at all aggressive...very sweet. I wish we could keep him, but my husband says no! (We have Irish Setters). :):)

Sounds like you found him a good home! If they only have one roo they should get along. I used to know a lady that had 7 roosters and no hens and they got along great. (They did grow up together though). Please let us know how it went.

Just a follow-up! The trip there proved successful! They had a couple tussles at first, but by the time we were ready to leave they were walking around together peacefully. I will call in a couple days to check that all is still well. As he stepped out of the crate to freedom he called out a great cockadoodle-dooooo! Made us all smile. Happy endings.:) I posted some photos of him and his new home. Thanks for the welcome and help.
