Found a ferret. What can it eat?

They are probably a pair, and they should be fine,

Don;t worry about your dog, biting them, have a look at their teeth and how fast they move and you will soon see why your dog would not go into his kennel with them there. they will also see it as sport to torment him.

Sounds like they are used to people, so you should be fine, they are great little creatures and they will do fine on cat or dog food, they are very playful. Just watch your hands when you are putting food down, they will not hurt on purpose if they are being taken care of but accidents dohappen and they can really dig in....

But they are such fun to watch their antics.

I'm just going to suggest some ferretvite if you can find a tube as well. It was a nice 'snack' for mine... but it had an incredibley high amount of crude proteins which is what they need. It should help make up for you not having their own food available to them.

If I don't have the pleasure of giving them back to whoever they belong to today I will do that. I think they either did or are about to open a pet store about 12 miles from me. I sure hope so cause the next closest one I know of is at least 20. If I have to go to the pet store I will grab some ferret food as well. They seem to love the cat food so maybe its a good temporary measure.

I feed mine Iams kitten food in the purple bag. They won't touch ferret food. Sigh. The Iams works fine and they are healthy little buggers.

If you keep them the ferretvite and ferretone are both excellant treats. Be careful to dose out in moderation just like any other treat. I had a greedy little white ferret once that ate more than his share. He ended up with a vitamin overdose and had to go cold turkey on the ferretone. He was not a happy ferret.

They likely will do well together. Know that ferrets love to fight and wrestle with each other. Biting is a part of this. (Drawing blood is not.) Since they prettey much see everything and everybody else on the planet as giant ferrets, they will bite people and dogs and cats and whatever. While it is done in play, it can hurt. Should they bite you, just scruff them gently, tell them no, and put them down. If you scream at them or hit, it will scare them and they will clamp down harder. Ouch!

Be careful with the ferrets and the dog. There are many, many cases of dogs killing ferrets. Sadly, ferrets don't have the good sense to leave bigger animals alone. My cats are scared of mine. My dogs are intrigued. The dogs and ferrets don't get to play around each other because I can't trust the dogs to not nip back. Some dogs are scared of them, but you can't count on it.

If you end up keeping them, do a google search for the Ferret Mailing List (FML). It comes out daily (is emailed to you) and is very much like BYC in attitude and usefulness. It's a great resource.

Have fun with them. Ferrets are a blast!
