Found a hidden nest!

I found over a dozen eggs in a nest my chickens made behind our shed. No idea how long they've been there. Is there a way to know if the eggs are ok to eat or not?

You can float test them! Put them in a bowl of water. Good eggs that are fresh sink to the bottom, while slightly older eggs come off the bottom a bit, and the oldest ones actually bob to the top and stick out of the water. Open those far away from you, they might be rotten!

Or you can throw them all out, by far the safest plan. Unless you have a very good idea how old they are. Eggs are cheap, and food poisoning is the pits! Mary

It happened to me. I used the float test and the eggs were fine.

One of them just tilted up, didn't float.
So I boiled up and gave it to the chickens. It smelled just fine.
They liked it.
