Found a large feather - what did it come from?

We have turkey vultures around my area too - not so pretty to look at. Now a NN's - you have to love them as they willingly give you an egg almost everyday.

If NNs are so great, how come you don't have any, Heidi? Hmmmm....????

NN - Necked Necks aka Turkens - it's a chicken that's so ugly you love it! I don't have any because no one has offered me one! Wynette - you stay out of my chicken coop!

It's the tail feather from a Red Tail Hawk. Looks like a relatively central feather in the tail too. The quill will be more off-centered toward one side of the feather if the feather itself is located near the outside edge of the tail.

If you don't want it, mail it to me, I'll give it a good home

OH, thank you so very much, Urban Coyote! I'll be on the lookout for them - glad my runs are covered!

My uncle has a huge flock of turkey buzzards that reside in his forest. He lives in northern Livingston county, Fausett Rd and US-23 area.
Ugly things, but they do clean up the road kill nicely.

And your feather is a red tailed hawk. We have several on our property. Few years ago they were getting our meat chickens at 3-4 weeks of age. I had a hole that I didn't think was an issue, up high, but I was wrong! Haven't seen them go after the hens, I think they are too big (hopefully!)
