I was planning on cutting a hole in a plastic bin to use for a nestbox, but I spotted these at Target yesterday:

The bins have a nice, snug fitting lid. The system is modular, so you could even stack a couple for a double decker nest. There's a hole in the back of the bin already so you could easily use a screw and washer to attach the bin to the wall and get it off the floor, if you wanted to. I figure the plastic will be very easy to keep clean.

Hey thanks! Off to Target..........................................

That looks perfect for a nest box but I wonder what you would normally store in them, with that big hole in the front?

The young chickens that I have now prefer to nest in anything other than their nest boxes

. They lay their eggs in an old dog crate, a rubbish barrel that is tipped over on it's side, in among the bales of hay in the hay stall and various other oddball places.

I've been told cat litter sales buckets work well, but they seem small to me. Anybody had experience with them? THey would be cheaper, but these look really good...and Target is so close....
